In a tragic turn of events, a party bus crash on Interstate 95 in Harford County, Maryland, has left one person dead and 23 others injured, according to Maryland State Police. The incident occurred early Sunday morning, causing a significant disruption to the northbound traffic.
The bus, carrying 24 people, was traveling northbound when it lost control and collided with a guardrail around 6 a.m., near mile marker 79.5. The cause of the accident remains unknown at this time. State police were alerted to the single-vehicle crash and promptly arrived at the scene.
"One passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and multiple passengers were transported to a local hospital," state police reported. The injured passengers, including the driver, were taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center for treatment.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team is currently investigating the cause of the crash. In the meantime, all northbound lanes of I-95 at mile marker 77 remain closed for the ongoing investigation. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes US 40 or MD 7.
The fatal crash has raised questions about the safety of party buses and the regulations governing their operation. As of Sunday afternoon, no charges had been filed in relation to the incident.
Harford County, where the accident occurred, is located approximately 55 miles north of Baltimore. The county's emergency services were among the first responders at the scene.
