Country music sensation Morgan Wallen found himself on the wrong side of the law in Nashville, Tennessee, after allegedly throwing a chair from the rooftop of a downtown bar, according to local authorities. The incident occurred late Sunday night at Chief's Bar, a newly opened establishment owned by fellow country music artist Eric Church.
Wallen, 30, was booked into jail early Monday morning on three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of disorderly conduct, the Metro Nashville Police Department reported. The charges stem from an incident that could have had serious consequences. According to an arrest affidavit, two police officers were standing in front of Chief's Bar when they saw a chair fall from above, landing about three feet from them.
The bar's staff members identified Wallen as the culprit, and video footage of the incident showed him "lunging and throwing an object off the roof," according to the affidavit. Witnesses corroborated the account, stating they watched Wallen “pick up the chair, throw it over him, laughing afterward.”
Wallen's reckless endangerment charges were levied due to the potential danger his actions posed to the public, particularly the two officers in the vicinity. The disorderly conduct charge was added because he "created a hazardous condition by an act that served no legitimate purpose," as stated in the affidavit.
Davidson County Sheriff's Office online records show Wallen was booked into jail at 12:36 a.m. local time and released around 3:30 a.m. after posting a $15,250 bond. Wallen's attorney, Worrick Robinson, confirmed the arrest and stated that Wallen is "cooperating fully with authorities."
This is not the first time Wallen has faced public scrutiny for his actions. In February 2021, he apologized after a video surfaced of him using a racial slur, leading to swift backlash from the music industry.
Wallen, a native of Sneedville, Tennessee, has had a successful music career with his most recent album “One Thing at a Time” peaking at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. His arrest comes just days after the start of his One Night At A Time 2024 tour. Wallen is due in court next month for a settlement hearing on the charges.
