Cannes Film Festival Showcases Premieres of 'Furiosa', 'The Apprentice', and 'Bird'

Date:

The Cannes Film Festival, a prestigious event in the world of cinema, has been the stage for the world premieres of several highly anticipated films. Among them are 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga', 'The Apprentice', and 'Bird', each greeted with enthusiasm and acclaim.

The fifth installment in George Miller’s celebrated action franchise, 'Furiosa', was met with a seven-minute standing ovation at its world premiere. The film, a prequel set more than a decade before 'Mad Max: Fury Road', stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth. The director, George Miller, shared with the audience that they "worked very hard on this film, and it’s been very interesting to see what you make of it.”

The film traces the journey of the character Imperator Furiosa, first brought to life by Charlize Theron in 'Fury Road'. The narrative spans around 18 years, tracing Furiosa's abduction from her childhood home to her coming into the hands of a Biker Horde led by the Warlord of Dementus, played by Chris Hemsworth.

Meanwhile, Sebastian Stan's upcoming film 'The Apprentice', in which he portrays former US president Donald Trump, has confirmed a UK release for 2024. The film charts Trump's rise to power as a businessman, described as "an exploration of power and ambition set in a world of corruption and deceit". The film is set to compete for Cannes' prestigious Palme d'Or award.

Andrea Arnold's anticipated new film 'Bird' also made its debut at the festival. The film, which follows a 12-year-old girl seeking attention and adventure, was warmly received and honored with a seven-minute standing ovation. Arnold, a beloved and award-winning veteran of the festival, described the making of 'Bird' as one of the toughest shoots of her career. Despite the challenges, she expressed gratitude for the support she received from her fellow directors, stating, “It made me feel that others were standing with me. It renewed my energy and determination to keep at what I was doing, to try finding the film, the essence of what I had intended."
